Do You Know All the Benefits of Baseboard Heating?

Baseboard HeatingBaseboard heating provides added heat to a room in your home that needs a comfort boost during chilly weather. As the name implies, these independent heating units are mounted on or against the baseboard at floor level. Because the generated heat naturally rises, a baseboard unit is well positioned to provide supplemental heat that gently flows upward into the room.

Baseboard heating comes in two types: convection and hydronic. Convection units utilize electric heating elements just like a standard, portable space heater. Hydronic units use warm water from the boiler and can be utilized only in homes with existing hydronic radiator heating. Both types incorporate a thermostat to adjust heating to a precise, comfortable level.

Baseboard heating can provide a number of benefits to reduce heating costs while improving indoor comfort, including:

  • Reduced heating costs. A baseboard heater can help cut monthly heating bills by allowing you to set a lower thermostat setting on the main house furnace while not compromising comfort in an individual room or rooms where baseboard heat is installed. By adding economical heat only to rooms that are occupied at a particular time, overall energy consumption is reduced.
  • Warming up the cold spots. Many houses have cold spots that resist heating. It might be too far away from the heating vent or too close to a window or exterior door. Strategically placing a baseboard unit in these locations can warm up those chilly zones without overheating the entire room.
  • No added duct noises. These units contribute warmth without the intermittent whooshing sound of forced air rushing through the central ductwork.
  • Few moving parts and long service life. Because these units rely on the natural properties of rising heat, there’s no fan or other moving parts to wear out and require replacement and no ducts that need cleaning.

At Paitson Bros., we’re glad to provide diverse options, such as baseboard heating, that enhance comfort and lower costs. For 100 years now, we’ve been committed to bringing the best in heating and cooling to the residents of the Wabash Valley.
