Don’t Skimp When It Comes to Buying HVAC Insurance

HVAC insurance options are important to safeguard your investment in home heating and cooling comfort. In most cases, these systems are typically among the most costly components installed in the house. Like any and all mechanical devices, HVAC systems may be affected by wear and tear, damage occurring to the structure, and even theft.  To ensure that some form of compensation is available under common circumstances, a closer look at HVAC insurance options may be helpful.

Homeowners Insurance

A typical homeowners policy only offers HVAC insurance coverage for damage occurring as part of a covered event, such as a house fire, a falling tree, a power surge, etc. HVAC losses due to mechanical failures, improper installation, or simple long-term wear and tear will not be compensated by a typical homeowner’s insurance policy.

Home Warranties

Home warranties is a form of HVAC insurance that requires ongoing monthly payments. Available only from independent marketers, these policies typically offer coverage for parts and labor related to repairs to a furnace or air conditioner. Exceptions include damage by fire and some weather incidents, theft, or any other issues that are usually covered by a standard homeowner’s policy.

Maintenance Agreements

A maintenance agreement provided by your local HVAC contractor typically provides discounts on needed repairs, as well as benefits like 24-hour priority service and a longer warranty on work performed. Maintenance agreements also help save money and enhance reliability in several additional ways.

  • Professional maintenance is proven to reduce expenses due to excess mechanical wear and tear and reduced energy efficiency, as well as costs and the inconvenience of unexpected system breakdowns.
  • Regular professional maintenance helps detect and resolve incipient problems before they become major issues that impose greater expense.
  • A record of regular, annual, professional preventative maintenance is usually specified by the system’s warranty. If regular maintenance is lacking, manufacturer’s warranty coverage may be denied and the costs of repair/replacement of an HVAC unit may fall entirely upon the homeowner.
