New Air Conditioner: Should You Trust the Online Reviews?

New Air Conditioner: Should You Trust the Online Reviews? Are air conditioner reviews on the web a credible source for research? Reviews of companies marketing HVAC sales online can be hard to substantiate. The more geographically distant the company is, the more a healthy skepticism about glowing online reviews is warranted. For example, online outfits that only sell HVAC systems and ship from a faraway location have no local reputation to cultivate, take no role in installation and service and have limited stake in long-term customer satisfaction.

However, perusing air conditioner reviews posted by local customers regarding experiences with established HVAC contractors in your community can be informative and generally credible. In addition to local reviews on local firms, however, it’s wise to apply personal research when making a decision.

Personal Research

  • Ask friends and neighbors in your community about their specific experiences with HVAC contractors in this area.
  • Check with the Better Business Bureau in your town to determine if a specific company has a file of complaints or issues with poor service. These are more credible than anonymous online reviews posted from distant locales.
  • Pay attention to the prominence of local firms by noting the presence of marked company service trucks on the job in your neighborhood, local advertising, and involvement in community affairs and events.
  • Keep in mind that professional installation—including an accurate load calculation by a qualified technician to properly size the air conditioner or furnace—is critical to system performance, energy efficiency, and operating costs. An online HVAC sales company has no direct involvement in installation and is not liable for poor workmanship or unsatisfactory results that may ensue.
  • If performance or reliability issues with the system subsequently arise, consider that a distant online seller and an independent installer have a vested interest in blaming each other and attempting to shift responsibility. Conversely, when HVAC equipment is both marketed and installed by the same reputable local contractor, such conflicts of interest are non-existent.

At Paitson Bros. we’re proud of our local air conditioner reviews. We also encourage customers to do their own research and verify our track record here in the Wabash Valley since 1922.

Our goal is to help educate our customers in Terre Haute, Indiana about energy and home comfort issues (specific to HVAC systems). For more information about other HVAC topics, download our free Home Comfort Guide or call us at 812-645-6859.
