Does My HVAC Contractor Need to Be NATE Certified?

Does My HVAC Contractor Need to Be NATE Certified? How much do you really know about the training and technical expertise of the person who comes to your home to install or service your heating or cooling system? If your contractor hires NATE certified employees, you have the assurance of the industry-wide organization responsible for testing and certifying HVAC field technicians.

Today’s heating and cooling equipment is complex technology. Many critical factors—performance, energy efficiency, reliability and safety—require specialized formal training and hands-on experience to install and repair. When your contractor has NATE certified techs on staff, you know you’re getting the right person for the job.

NATE stands for North American Technician Excellence, a program founded and supported by the HVAC industry to ensure a trained and qualified workforce. To earn certification, technicians must accumulate a specified amount of experience on the job, then undergo a course of study required to pass a comprehensive exam on general HVAC theory as well as an additional examination in a chosen area of specialization. After certification, the program requires a minimum amount of continuing classroom education to stay current.

For the HVAC contractor, hiring techs with NATE certification means investing in individuals who’ve already demonstrated professionalism and a commitment to the industry. These are long-term employees who have a stake in providing the highest standard of service to customers.

For the homeowner, here are some of the benefits of doing business with a contractor with NATE certified technicians on the payroll:

  • Lower operation costs because HVAC equipment is properly maintained to manufacturer’s specs and OEM energy efficiency ratings.
  • Work that’s performed correctly the first time, eliminating the need for callbacks.
  • Reliable professionals who understand the value of fast, efficient service to minimize inconvenience to your household.
  • Skilled technicians who keep up-to-date on the latest technology and industry best practices.
  • Peace of mind knowing that all safety functions integrated into your heating and cooling system are verified any time work is performed.

As part of the Terre Haute community since 1922, Paitson Bros. is proud to employ NATE certified field technicians to serve our customers and neighbors.
