Handling Pressuring HVAC Salespeople

Handling Pressuring HVAC SalespeopleNobody likes a pushy HVAC salesperson — particularly true sales professionals in this industry who work hard to uphold high standards and offer quality products and service. However, competition in the business occasionally inspires aggressive, unscrupulous tactics by less-than-reputable outfits. As a consumer, recognizing and avoiding the pushy HVAC salesperson is the best tactic to discourage this approach. Here are some red flags that warn you to seek an established, trustworthy HVAC company.

Unrealistically Low Prices

If the price sounds too good to be true …. well, you know the rest. A high-pressuring salesperson may “forget” to include associated costs in a verbal estimate for a new heating or cooling system. These may include details like the cost of pulling building permits, various tests before and after installation, ductwork inspection required by local codes and certain mandatory safety add-ons like carbon monoxide detectors. Though the typical pushy HVAC salesperson doesn’t tell you about these ancillary charges, rest assured, you’ll still get the bill for them.

Buy Now Before it’s Too Late!

Pushy sales tactics often include using the pressure of time to force you to a hasty buying decision. Usually this is accomplished by offering purported “discounts” that conveniently expire within hours. The goal is to make you feel rushed. Actually, there’s usually no hurry to buy a furnace or air conditioner. An HVAC contractor with an established reputation in the community doesn’t push customers to make snap decisions. There’s plenty of time to make a carefully considered purchase.

No Testing Required

No HVAC professional recommends replacing a furnace or air conditioner until very specific, industry-standard tests have been performed, such as a heating and cooling load calculation to determine your home’s exact BTU requirements. High-pressure outfits, however, often skip these critical steps, relying instead on “rule of thumb” guesstimates to finalize the sale ASAP — without any regard to the efficiency and performance of the system in the future (after they’re long gone).

Every HVAC salesperson at Paitson Bros. is committed to the highest standards of customer service and satisfaction. It’s been this way since 1922.
