Are you looking for a professional, experienced, highly qualified HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) contractor to service or repair your HVAC equipment?
Well, when you select an HVAC contractor that hires NATE-certified technicians, you’ll know a great deal about who’s working on your heating and cooling equipment even before they start. NATE (North American Technician Excellence) is a nonprofit program operated by the HVAC industry to test and certify the knowledge and skills of field technicians. Founded in 1997, NATE is the largest testing program in the industry. Certification has now been earned by over 25,000 technicians.
Technicians must pass two comprehensive exams to earn certification. The first is a test of knowledge in core HVAC theory and technology, followed by an examination in one of several specialties Successful scores on both exams result in certification, but the learning doesn’t stop there. Over the ensuing five years, technicians are expected to complete 60 hours of continuing education in HVAC technology.
Here are some of the benefits of insisting on NATE-certified technicians:
- Expert installation. The efficiency and performance specs of a new air conditioner (A/C) or furnace are based on an installation performed to standards endorsed by the Department of Energy’s Energy Star program. NATE-certified technicians are up to speed on installing the latest equipment to the highest standards. Proper installation maximizes the efficiency and comfort you expect in a new unit.
- System-wide inspection and diagnosis. Many shortfalls in HVAC performance originate far from the A/C unit or furnace itself. NATE-certified techs are trained in assessing and correcting issues with ductwork, system airflow and air balance throughout a home. These factors affect both comfort and healthy air quality.
- Focus on safety. HVAC equipment utilizes high voltages and may generate combustion gases, such as carbon monoxide. Safety is a major part of NATE qualification, and you can rest assured that NATE-certified contractors are trained on the installation and maintenance of complex systems.
- A job done right. NATE-certified technicians arrive with the training, the techniques and the tools to get the job done right the first time. Fewer carryovers and callbacks means less intrusion, inconvenience and expense for you.
