If Your Home’s Never Had Duct Cleaning Performed, It Might Need It Now

People are aware of the dust and dirt that can accumulate inside their furnace filter and ducts, but not many think about the mold or vermin dander that might be lurking inside the ducts that deliver air to your entire home. If your home has never had a duct cleaning performed before, consider having it done now to improve your indoor air quality and keep your heating and cooling equipment running efficiently.

The weather in the Terre Haute area can get hot and humid at times and if the moisture levels inside your home rise about 60 percent or so, your ducts can become a breeding ground for mold spores. Breathing in mold causes severe respiratory problems as well as an increase in allergies and asthma attacks. You can manage the humidity of your home by investing in a dehumidifier and you can rectify the mold situation by having a thorough duct cleaning performed.

Dust, dirt, dander and pollen can cover the internal components of your furnace, including the blower motor and heat coils. These parts don’t work properly when they’re dirty and this can lead to you having to invest in expensive repairs. Along with changing your filter every two to three months, you should also have a duct cleaning completed to better manage the cleanliness inside your HVAC system.

Crushed ducts or even small, almost invisible leaks can allows bugs and other critters into your ducts where the living conditions are ideal for them to live and multiply. You should hire an exterminator to get rid of these pests but you also need to clean up the mess they left behind with a cleaning.
